Sharing the love of God in Opelousas, Louisiana since 1806
The origins of the Louisiana Memorial United Methodist Church can be traced back to the beginnings of Methodism in Louisiana. When Elisha Bowman came to Louisiana, he made his way to Opelousas and organized a Methodist Society in 1806. That first year, he accepted 17 members into the church. Services were later held in a community church between St. Landry and Vine Streets, near Cain Street. The church has been called the "mother church" of Methodism in Louisiana. The church was renamed the Louisiana Memorial Methodist Church. It was later dedicated in November, 1960 by Bishop Aubrey Walton.

Learn about our amazing Pastor here at Louisiana Memorial United Methodist Church!

Rev. Raymond Partsch III is a proud husband and father who has arrived at his spiritual calling later in life, but is passionate about making disciples of Jesus Christ.
Partsch became an official member of First United Methodist Church in Downtown Lafayette, and that is also where he was baptized in 2017. He would go on to serve on the church’s transformation team, the church’s communication team, and serve as an at-large delegate for the Louisiana Conference.
It was during this time that he began pursuing becoming a certified lay speaker for the United Methodist Church, which led him to what he feels God is calling him to do — becoming a local pastor.
After completing the candidacy process, he graduated from the License to Preach School. He has been serving as the pastor at Louisiana Memorial United Methodist Church since July 2023.
Partsch is married to Tina Guidroz Partsch of Arnaudville, and the couple has one child, a daughter named Hattie Alise Partsch. The Partsch family lives in Sunset.
We spread the Gospel to create a deep, personal yet communal act of sharing the redemptive story of Jesus Christ, offering hope and purpose to our world and church in need. When we actively engage with our neighbors, listening to their struggles, and responding with genuine love, we open doors for conversation, making the message of God's unconditional love accessible and real. Our holistic approach ensures the Gospel is shared not just as a historical account, but as a living, transforming power available to all at Louisiana Memorial United Methodist Church.
